Wake County Teens Launch Anti-Vaping Campaign

A group of high school students in Wake County is taking a stand against vaping, urging their peers to “escape the vape.” The students, who are part of the Poe Center for Health Education’s Youth Empowerment program, presented their findings to the Wake County School Board on Tuesday. The campaign, which included an “Escape the Vape” week last November, aims to shift the culture among their generation and reduce vaping among teens.

The initiative addresses the rising concern over e-cigarette use among middle and high school students. Despite a recent decline, the CDC reports that e-cigarettes remain the most commonly used tobacco product in this age group. By highlighting the negative health impacts and promoting a tobacco-free lifestyle, the student group hopes to inspire district-wide adoption of similar campaigns and create a healthier environment for their peers.
