Wake County Secures Nearly $5M in Federal Funding for Affordable Housing

Wake County has secured nearly $5 million in federal grants to support affordable housing initiatives as part of its 2024-2025 Annual Action Plan. This plan, approved by the Wake County Board of Commissioners, includes strategies for affordable housing, homeless services, and community development.

Chair Sinica Thomas highlighted that the funding will aid in creating and preserving 2,500 affordable housing units by 2029. The grants will also bolster the county’s efforts to make homelessness rare, brief, and non-recurring. The funds will be allocated to various programs, including the Community Development Block Grant, HOME Investment Partnerships Program, Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS, and the Emergency Solutions Grant.
