Tiny Raleigh Cafe Lands on National List of Hottest New Restaurants

An 800-square-foot cafe in Raleigh has earned a spot among the 14 hottest new restaurants in the country, according to a list published by the reservation platform Resy. Songbird, an all-day coffee and cocktail spot, is the only North Carolina restaurant to make the list, sharing company with buzzy openings in Atlanta, Chicago and New York.

Despite its small footprint, Songbird has built a loyal following by serving coffee, juices and smoothies alongside both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks throughout the day. The concept taps into a broader dining trend across the Triangle, where all-day bars and cafes have become increasingly popular even as the local restaurant market grows more crowded.

Part of the draw, according to the team behind Songbird, is treating the space as a fixture of customers’ daily routines rather than a single-purpose stop — staying open from morning through night to serve as many hours of the day as possible, a strategy aimed at maximizing every operating hour in an increasingly expensive industry.

The recognition adds to a wave of attention for Raleigh’s dining scene this year, even as some longtime restaurants in the area have shuttered amid shifting consumer habits and rising costs.
