The Pitt County Parks and Recreation Department is moving into Phase II of development at its new community center, located at the Pitt County Office Park, north of the Tar River. This phase includes significant upgrades like a walking trail, playground, picnic shelter, restroom building, and enhanced security with lighting and cameras.

Phase I saw the completion of a new gym, designed to provide recreational opportunities for rural residents. County Manager Janis Gallagher praised the ongoing development, noting its importance in increasing accessibility for those without reliable transportation. Looking ahead, Phases III and IV will focus on improving roadways and adding multi-purpose fields to serve the community.
