The Eat-Well-Wake program has begun delivering healthy food to Latino patients at the Northern Regional Center in Wake County, offering vital support for families managing chronic health conditions. Through this initiative, patients referred by their doctors receive free food boxes twice a month, filled with fresh, local produce and non-perishable goods to promote a healthier lifestyle. Jennifer Vázquez Sánchez, a prenatal patient diagnosed with high glucose, expressed gratitude for the program, noting how the nutritious food has positively impacted her health and helped her save money during her pregnancy.
The program, open to all patients regardless of income or immigration status, aims to improve access to healthy food for underserved communities. Collaborations with local partners like Community Connections Garden and Tri-Area Ministry Food Pantry have made the initiative possible. While only six families are currently participating, the program has the capacity to serve 50 families, ensuring that more people in need will benefit from this crucial service.
