Carrie Everett, a rising sophomore at North Carolina Central University, was crowned Miss North Carolina 2024 on June 29. Representing Johnston County, Everett impressed the judges with her community service initiative, “We Need Equity to Build Communities,” and a powerful musical theater performance from “Dreamgirls.” As the new Miss North Carolina, she will receive $20,000, a car for the year, and additional scholarships. Everett’s victory makes her the fourth Black woman to win the title since the competition began in 1937.

Everett’s achievement underscores the opportunities provided by the Miss America Organization. Despite financial challenges, she entered the competition with limited resources, demonstrating her determination and resilience. She will now represent North Carolina at the Miss America pageant, where she will showcase her talents and commitment to civic engagement.
