The Triangle region welcomed U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, who marked the start of construction on a high-speed rail line connecting Raleigh to Richmond, Virginia. This significant project, part of the larger S-Line initiative linking North Carolina to Washington, D.C., is funded by over $1 billion from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. During the groundbreaking event, Governor Roy Cooper and other officials emphasized the economic boost and enhanced safety the project will bring, including a new road overpass to reduce car-train collisions.

Local contractors like Cruz Bros. Concrete are gearing up for substantial work, ensuring steady employment for years to come. Buttigieg highlighted the transformative potential of this rail line, positioning it as a critical step towards modernizing America’s passenger rail service. The project, expected to be operational by 2029 or 2030, aims to provide a safer, more efficient transportation option, complete with bike lanes and sidewalks.
