The Wake County Sheriff’s Office is set to receive nearly $900,000 in federal funding to upgrade its technology, announced during National Police Week. This funding will provide 200 body-worn cameras, 30 in-car cameras, and 60 vehicle radars, enhancing officer safety and public transparency. Sheriff Willie Rowe emphasized the benefits for officer security and the documentation of interactions with inmates and the public. Congressman Wiley Nickel, instrumental in securing the funds, highlighted ongoing efforts to obtain an additional $1.7 million for future technology enhancements. These improvements aim to reduce traffic-related fatalities and improve community safety.
