The 38th annual North Carolina Pickle Festival in downtown Mount Olive drew crowds by the thousands this year, featuring an array of events and attractions from Friday, April 26, to Saturday, April 27. The festival, which made a grand return to a live format, started off with a bang on Friday night, highlighted by pay-one-price carnival rides and a glow-in-the-dark Cuke Patch 5K run. Music enthusiasts enjoyed a live concert by Steel Country Express, setting a festive tone.
On Saturday, the festival reached its peak with a full slate of activities including the pickle-eating contest, where last year’s champion Cole Lambert aimed to defend his title. New to the festival this year was Knockerball Bubble Soccer and Rick Hubbard’s Kaboozie Show, adding unique flair to the traditional lineup. The event also featured a costume contest judged by Ollie Q. Cumber, adding a playful element to the pickle-themed festivities.
Vendor stalls lined the streets offering everything from traditional festival foods to pickle-flavored delicacies, ensuring there was something for everyone. The absence of pets, a new policy aimed at ensuring safety, marked another change this year. As the pickle capital celebrated with music, contests, and rides, the festival not only honored its past but also embraced new traditions, promising an even bigger and better experience in the years to come.
