Kinston’s scenic Riverwalk is set to receive a significant extension, thanks to a substantial funding boost from the North Carolina Department of Transportation (DOT). The project, which will more than double the Riverwalk’s length, received $2.68 million from the DOT. This extension will stretch the pathway along the Neuse River by an additional mile and a half, reaching the Kinston Community Center.

Local contributions have also bolstered the project, with Lenoir County and the City of Kinston each contributing $334,950, bringing the total project cost to $3.35 million. Adam Short, Lenoir County’s assistant county manager, highlighted the Riverwalk’s role in promoting connectivity within the community. The construction is anticipated to take up to five years to complete, enhancing the area’s recreational and aesthetic appeal.
