The Edgecombe County Sheriff’s Office is hosting a Bike Back to School Safety Event on Saturday, August 10, in Pinetops, aiming to teach essential cycling skills to children ages 6 to 17. The event, co-sponsored by Good Company Cycling Club, Edgecombe County Public Schools, and the N.C. Highway Patrol, will feature a bike rodeo where participants will navigate cone courses, practice safe riding techniques, and learn to handle various cycling hazards.

In addition to the safety drills, a free raffle will see 25 lucky participants take home new bicycles. Sheriff Clee Atkinson, an avid cyclist himself, emphasized the importance of the event, noting that it’s not just about having fun but about ensuring young riders are prepared to safely share the road. The day will culminate in a series of bicycle races, showcasing the skills learned throughout the event.
