Durham County is inviting the public to get up close with moths this Saturday at Hollow Rock Nature Park. The event, starting at 8 p.m., is part of an effort to raise awareness about the startling decline in moth populations in the New Hope Creek Corridor and beyond. Attendees will have the chance to use microscopes and hand lenses, play Moth Bingo, and observe moth species attracted to light sheets.

David Bradley from the Durham County Open Space Program emphasizes the critical role moths play in ecosystems, particularly as a food source for birds. The event also aims to involve the public in conservation efforts and shed light on the global “insect apocalypse” that is having local impacts. Registration is required to attend this free event.
