The Southeast District of 4-H recently hosted a district activity day at the University of Mount Olive, attracting over 200 participants. Local community leaders volunteered, engaging with youth and judging the friendly competitions. Dalton Dockery, the Southeast District extension director, highlighted the district’s distinction as the largest among North Carolina’s five districts, emphasizing the hard work of the 4-H staff in ensuring youth participation.

The event featured over 30 categories, including health, science, agriculture, and civic engagement, providing a hands-on learning environment aimed at developing essential life skills and leadership qualities. Participants were grouped by age and category, with three judges in each location offering constructive feedback. The day concluded with an awards ceremony, where top winners earned the opportunity to compete at the state level. Dockery praised the event’s positive atmosphere, noting the importance of building relationships with future leaders.
